WE’RE ON A MISSION
TO END LONELINESS

This Christmas we’ve launched a campaign to end loneliness, focusing specifically on supporting the elderly who are most at-risk and the most isolated amid the coronavirus pandemic.

WHAt WE’RE DOING
CAMPAIGN TO END LONELINESS

Our Campaign To End Loneliness comes in three parts. First, there’s a fundraiser, with the mighty One Million Step Challenge to be completed in 30 Days throughout Christmas. Alongside this, there’s also the telephone support – with Chapter One offering friendly chats to over 65’s in the UK who are feeling especially lonely this holiday season. Last but not least, we’re beating away those January Blues by offering all over 65’s living in London a FREE Virtual Date for companionship and romance to lift them up in the New Year.

PART 1
THE WALK

Our Director, Ella Stearn, is walking one million steps – which is roughly 500 miles – over 30 days throughout the Christmas period as a fundraiser for our Campaign To End Loneliness. The 30 Day Challenge launched on 18th December and will run until 17th January 2021.

All donations will go to Age UK, to provide support, answers and reassurance to older people who have no one else to turn to. You can follow Ella’s progress daily via social media and donate to the fundraiser here.

PART 2
THE CALLS
Chapter One will also be opening up their phone lines throughout the campaign, taking calls to over 65’s who are feeling especially lonely over the holiday period. They can book in a 15 minute friendly chat, speaking to one of our advisors for a little caring company to keep them going.
Loneliness, living alone and poor social connections are as bad for your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. It is also worse for you than obesity. Whats more it puts individuals at greater risk of cognitive decline and dementia.
500,000
Half a million older people go at least five or six days a week without seeing or speaking to anyone at all.
SOME OF THE STATS
Two fifths all older people (about 3.9 million) say the television is their main company.
0%
The number of over-50s experiencing loneliness is set to reach two million by 2025/6. This is a 49% increase in 10 years.
0%
Loneliness is likely to increase your risk of death by 26%.

PART 3
JANUARY MATCHING
For the final part of our Campaign To End Loneliness, Chapter One will be offering a FREE Matching Service for one month in January, available to over 65’s in London. There are currently 1.1 million people over 65 living in London, which is why we’re doing our bit to help connect them. To receive this, simply sign up as a member here, and we will organise a Virtual Date in the New Year.
Please note: if you’re reading this with a Grandparent in mind, please help them with the registration process if needed. We can also support with sign up over the phone if you get in touch here.
WHY WE’RE DOING THIS
Because we care. Genuinely. And wholeheartedly. Chapter One is so much more than just a business to us. We want to use it to help and support as many people as we possibly can.
